Château Arnauld: An Exceptional Heir to a Thousand-Year-Old History in the Heart of the Médoc. In the commune of Arcins, at the heart of the prestigious Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Arnauld embodies a rare heritage shaped by nearly a thousand years of history and transmission. From the Knights Templar to great Bordeaux families, and through the major viticultural developments of the Médoc, this unique estate carries a living memory of the vineyard. A History Rooted in the Middle Ages As early as the 12th century, the first vines appeared on these lands, cultivated by the Templar monks who produced wine for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. To this day, this spiritual and hospitable history remains visible: stones from the former Templar church were integrated into the château’s perimeter wall, a silent testimony to this founding past. A Viticultural and Aristocratic Legacy From the 17th century onwards, Bordeaux nobility and bourgeoisie began investing in the Médoc. It was in this context that the lands of what would become Château Arnauld passed into the hands of Pierre Dubedat, and later his widow. In the 18th century, the estate’s destiny shifted thanks to Pierre-Jacques Arnauld, an ambitious Bordeaux magistrate who secretly married the Dubedat daughter. He gave the property a new dimension, commissioning the main building between 1730 and 1735, followed by the cellar in 1750. The estate then took its definitive name: Château Arnauld. An Exceptional Terroir on Médoc Gravel Soils Château Arnauld now spans 18 hectares, including a historic 12-hectare plot located along the river, on deep Günzian gravel soils from the Quaternary period. This rare terroir gives the wines their precise and elegant identity, expressed through the Médoc’s emblematic grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Petit Verdot A Modern and Mastered Renaissance After several centuries of transmission and evolution, the estate entered a new era in 2007 when it joined the Vignobles de Larose group. Since then, Château Arnauld has continued to evolve: gradual acquisition of new exceptional parcels complete renovation of the winery in 2015 restoration of the château in 2019 along the Route des Châteaux development of a highly precise technical approach A Major Recognition: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel In 2020, Château Arnauld achieved a major milestone by being classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. This distinction recognises both the consistent quality of the wines and the coherence of long-term work carried out in the vineyard and cellars. An Estate Focused on Innovation and the Living World Today, Château Arnauld is firmly oriented towards the future. Committed to a High Environmental Value approach and a demanding CSR policy, it combines traditional expertise with cutting-edge technologies to better understand and reveal the living world. Every decision follows a clear objective: to elevate the terroir and express, as faithfully as possible, everything it has to offer. A Refined and Structured Signature The estate currently offers three complementary expressions: Château Arnauld Comte d’Arnauld Collection Arnauld Each reflects a different facet of the terroir and the precision work carried out on these unique Médoc gravel soils.
