Domaine Perganson: A Visionary Heritage in the Heart of the Médoc Between the estuary and the ocean, in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Larose-Perganson — also known as Domaine Perganson — has embodied the audacity and viticultural memory of the Médoc for more than three centuries. Founded in 1719, the estate stands as one of the earliest winegrowing expressions of the region and today remains the guardian of a singular terroir, deeply rooted in Médoc identity. A Founding Story Born of Boldness The story begins with Jean-Pierre de Pontet, Grand Écuyer to Louis XV and Governor of the Médoc, who chose the Perganson heathland as the site for a vineyard estate. This visionary decision was based on an exceptional terroir: some of the oldest gravel soils of the Médoc. As early as 1742, Perganson wines were already recognised and ranked among the most promising growths of their time, bearing witness to remarkable early quality. Over the centuries, the estate has experienced the major transformations of winegrowing history: successions, crises, abandonment, and conversions — until its gradual rebirth in the 20th century. Following the devastation of phylloxera and the upheavals of the First World War, the estate went through several lives, sometimes far from its original vocation. But in 1963, the Forner family restored its winegrowing identity by replanting the entire vineyard, marking the renaissance of Domaine Perganson. A Rare Terroir Between Gravel and Estuary Domaine Perganson covers a small 9-hectare vineyard, making it a discreet and confidential property within the Médoc. Its terroir, composed of Quaternary gravels and Pyrenean gravels, benefits from a privileged location between estuary and ocean. This unique geology provides ideal conditions for the expression of classic Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Marselan Malbec A subtle balance of power, freshness, and finesse defines the wines of the estate. A Renaissance Driven by Modernity Long shaped by historical upheavals, Domaine Perganson is now experiencing a true renaissance. Integrated into the Allianz Group since 1986, it benefits from a long-term heritage vision and a strong commitment to quality and sustainability. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, the estate now expresses a clear identity: producing precise, elegant wines that remain faithful to their terroir. A New Momentum Since 2025 The year 2025 marks an important milestone with the inauguration of new facilities: vat room, cellar, and wine tourism building. These developments combine technical modernity, winemaking precision, and a renewed visitor experience in a smoother and more accessible environment. A Committed Estate Looking to the Future Domaine Perganson is fully engaged in a sustainable and responsible viticulture approach, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value) and integrated into a broader CSR policy. This approach aims to preserve a fragile terroir while continuously improving wine quality and working conditions within the estate. A Signature of Character Today, Domaine Perganson offers a range of wines that reflect its unique identity and rich history: Château Larose-Perganson L’Inattendu L’Expérience Le Présage Each cuvée expresses a different facet of the estate, blending tradition, exploration, and creativity.
