Château Larose-Trintaudon

Point of interest

Château Larose-Trintaudon: The Lighthouse of the Médoc In the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation, in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, Château Larose-Trintaudon has stood for nearly two centuries as an iconic estate of the Bordeaux vineyard. With its 210 hectares of vines, it is among the largest estates in the Médoc and embodies an ambitious, sustainable vision firmly focused on the future. A History Built on Vision and Resilience The story began in 1838, when Henry Delaroze founded the first vineyard on the Trintaudon estate, then an uncultivated gravelly hilltop. Twenty years later, Count Ernest de Lahens took over the estate and gave it a new dimension. A visionary and builder, he significantly expanded the property and established Larose-Trintaudon as a recognised name, contributing to its rise among the Médoc’s notable growths. In 1884, he commissioned the construction of the château crowned by its emblematic tower, designed as a true lighthouse in the middle of the vineyards. To this day, the building embodies the strong identity and recognition of the estate. The 20th century was marked by the upheavals of history: phylloxera, wars, and uncertain land conversions… until the terroir rediscovered its winemaking vocation in 1963 with the Forner family, who undertook a complete restoration of the vineyard under the guidance of Professor Émile Peynaud. Since then, the estate has continued to grow and evolve, eventually joining the Allianz Group in 1986, with a vision focused on sustainability and long-term investment. An Exceptional Terroir in the Heart of the Médoc Château Larose-Trintaudon is rooted in a remarkable terroir composed of fine gravel, gravelly sands, and clay-limestone soils. This geological diversity allows the precise expression of the Médoc’s emblematic grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Petit Verdot Marselan More recently, the estate has embraced new expressions through white grape varieties: Viognier Sémillon Chardonnay This work of selection and adaptation reflects a strong ambition: combining tradition and innovation in response to climate challenges. A Landmark Estate Between Tradition and Modernity Today classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Larose-Trintaudon is recognised for the consistent quality of its wines and its deep roots in the Haut-Médoc appellation. A true “lighthouse of the Médoc,” the estate stands out both for its scale and its identity: an iconic brand featured on fine dining tables and in the cellars of wine lovers and connoisseurs alike. A New Era in 2025 The year 2025 marks a major turning point with the inauguration of new facilities: vat rooms, cellars, a renovated château, and a dedicated wine tourism centre. These investments enhance precision in the cellar, improve winemaking quality, and elevate the visitor experience. This modernisation forms part of a broader commitment: continuously improving wine quality, adapting production to climate challenges, and strengthening the connection between the estate and its visitors. An Estate Looking to the Future A pioneer in CSR commitment and certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value), Château Larose-Trintaudon now carries a clear vision: producing high-quality wines while deeply respecting its environment and territory. This momentum is also reflected in a strong commitment to wine tourism and a desire to share the estate with all audiences through an inclusive and engaging visitor experience. A New Expression of the Estate In 2026, the estate will further enrich its history with a symbolic milestone: the release of its first white wine, Blanc de Trintaudon, a new expression of its terroir and expertise.
